FAQs
Q: |
Who is KMHE? |
A: |
Kettle Moraine Home Educators (KMHE) organized in 2004 as moms supported each other in their homeschooling journey. Today, the support continues with about 80 families collaborating to enrich the social and educational opportunities available. As an informal Christian group, KMHE depends on individual parents and children to take the initiative. Member enthusiasm is welcome, and needed, for lives to be nourished and opportunities to flow in the form of field trips, social gatherings, supportive posts and much more. The organization connects homeschooling families in Washington, Dodge, Ozaukee, Fond Du Lac and surrounding counties. |
Q: |
How do I join KMHE? Can anyone join? |
A: |
Visit Join, complete and submit the form! Wisconsin homeschoolers (PI-1206 Homeschool Report submitted to DPI required) who reside in Washington and surrounding counties and agree to our Statement of Belief are welcome and encouraged to join KMHE. |
Q: |
When can I join KMHE? How long is KMHE membership? |
A: |
You can join KMHE at anytime of the year! Membership renewals take place October 1-15 of each year. We cannot pro-rate memberships, however, any registrations after June 1 count towards the next school year. |
Q: |
If my child attends a virtual school may we join KMHE? |
A: |
The answer is no. Please allow us to explain. Even though children may be at home to do their schooling, virtual schools are not homeschools. Virtual schools and homeschools are legally different in Wisconsin. Homeschools do not receive any financial or administrative support from the government. Parents have sole responsibility for the entirety of their homeschool and must affirm that their homeschool meets all the statutory requirements under Wisconsin Homeschool Law. KMHE strives to create support and connections for the homeschooling journey of Christian homeschoolers in Washington and surrounding counties in Wisconsin who file the PI-1206 Homeschool Report with the DPI. |
Q: |
What does my $15 annual Membership Fee pay for? |
A: |
|
Q: |
Is KMHE a co-op? |
A: |
No. KMHE is not a co-op and does not require parents to teach classes or lead regular instruction. Instead, KMHE functions as a community group that offers fellowship, events, and enrichment opportunities for Christian homeschool families. Some KMHE members do belong to co-ops, so you may be connected to those opportunities by joining KMHE. |
Q: |
What types of activities does KMHE have? |
A: |
By joining KMHE, you'll have the opportunity to participate in field trips, picnics, craft fairs, book sales, park days, game days, and much more depending on member's time and creativity! We look forward to journeying with you. |
Q: |
What age are KMHE activities geared towards? |
A: |
KMHE member families have children ranging in ages from preschool through high school. Activities and events may be for specific ages, or the entire family, as determined by the host of the activity or event. |
Q: |
Do I have to lead an event or activity? Is there any help or support? |
A: |
Parents are strongly encouraged to volunteer at least once per year in a way that fits their comfort level, interests, and availability. You do not have to lead an event on your own unless you want to. Many opportunities involve helping with existing KMHE-led events or working alongside other parents. Volunteer roles may include assisting with field trips, helping at group events, or co-organizing activities such as a Harvest Feast, game night, baking contest, or Science Fair. Support and connections are available, and your willingness to help strengthens the group for everyone. Start by emailing [email protected] with questions or to help build on an idea. |
Q: |
Who is the KMHE Advisory Board? |
A: |
The KMHE Advisory Board is a group (usually 6-7) of KMHE parents who have volunteered to direct KMHE business and affairs – from administering the website, to organizing funds, to answering questions, to planning activities, to maintaining records, etc. The Advisory Board wants KMHE and its members to thrive on the homeschooling journey. The group meets as needed to enhance KMHE. Advisory Board members receive no compensation for their service, but their $15 membership fee is waived. |
